By default, no, but it depends on which features you enable. For the reminder functionality your location is not tracked by any central entity. Your location is monitored in order to determine when to alert you with your reminders but this monitoring is completely contained within your smartphone. It is never transmitted anywhere.
If you enter a Missed Connection your current location will be store and used to match you with other potential missed connections. You have complete control over the stored location data by logging in to the website and deleting the missed connection record at any time.
When you use the Drop A Note feature the same rules apply as with missed connections.
No. The reminder can be used standalone on your phone without registering your user ID.
No. In order to protect your privacy, under no circumstances is your phone number ever used to identity your device. If you choose to register your device (see below for reasons why to register) the only identifier that will ever be used to identioy your device is the email address you supply.
Registration allows you of use the synchronization features of SynchroSpot. Otherwise all your information is contained on your phone (and susceptible to loss if your phone is lost). Without registering you can use SynchroSpot completely anonymously. However, you will miss out on some useful features.
Even if you want to use SynchroSpot in a standalone mode (i.e. without web site synchronization) we strongly encourage you to register anyway so that you can receive email information about SynchroSpot; in that event you may effectively turn off synchronization by switching your synchronization interval to manual on the preferences screen.
Absolutely. Use "Force Reminders" on the secondary main menu to acess the reminders for any desired location.
The radius that determines when a reminder is signaled is governed by the "Minimum Required Accuracy" value on the Preferences Panel. Before changing this value be sure your phone's location function is enabled by going to the G1's Settings panel and look at the "Security & location" sub-item; be sure "Use wireless networks" and "Enable GPS satellites" are both checked. Once you have verified your G1 is configured properly go to SynchroSpot's Preferences panel and increase the minimum required accuracy to a larger value.
As described in the above question you can reduce to "Minimum Required Accuracy" to tweak the sensitivity of the location triggering system. The oiptimal value will depend on your typical location, your typical usage and the typical access of your cell network's and GPS location capabilities.
Another reason you may not be getting your reminder alerts is that the phone is not receiving location data since it is blocked from receiving GPS signals (for instance, you are indoors or the phone otherwise blocked from receiving satellite signals). While you should be able to receive network-basd location anywhere you can get a cell signal if you have set your desired accuracy low enough that you cannot get an accurate enough cell-based location then a GPS reading may be required to trigger an alert.
GPS and other location technologies consume a lot of power. We strongly encourage you to time bound all your reminders. This will cause SynchroSpot to limit it's location activity to when the hours when it's required and not, say, at night when you are asleep. Keep in mind this only applies to the SynchroSpot application, if you have other GPS-based software on your phone time bounding will have no effect on your battery life.
Yes. Go to Preferences and disable the application. SynchroSpot will use no battery power. To re-enable SynchroSpot simply go into the app and respond affirmatively to the enable dialog.
